3's pushed all the way
By Owen Elsom
George leads the way.
Two wickets in two balls and a hard hit 71 by 16 year old George Godfrey helped Brook win a close encounter of the 3rd's kind against Chingford at the Annexe on Saturday.
Chingford elected to bowl upon the winning the toss, and opening over maidens from Owen Elsom and Bobby Granger gave no indication of the bedlam to come as Chingford's openers smacked the ball to the boundary with alarming regularity. Two early drops didn't help the cause much but eventually Owen Elsom grabbed his man courtesy of a George Godfrey catch at deep mid wicket.
Dave Leadbetter snaffled a skier off the effervescent Phil Thoufick before Godfrey nabbed two in two balls.
George Sleight then struck with his first ball and Elsom returned with a castling to keep Chingford's final total from their allotted 40 overs to 205-6.
Brooks reply got off to a flyer courtesy of Lee Carter 27 and Andy Livett 34 but both fell when well set and it was left to George Godfrey to marshall the innings with a masterful 71, his 50 coming in 45 balls, before he fell to a remarkable one handed catch. Wickets fell alarmingly but eventually Dave Leadbetter and Paul Atkins saw Brook home to a 3 wicket win with 22 balls to spare.
