Danny Gillham’s 3rd XI were involved in the match of the day as they beat Boreham by the smallest possible margin at the M&B Annex. With the bat, Goresbrook battled back after the early departures of Lee Jones for 1 and Jo Wilkinson for a duck with Tommy Puncher hitting 37 and Keith Friend 30 before some late hitting from Darren Robinson (43) took the Goats up to 171-7 from their 45 overs.
That total didn’t look like being enough as Boreham also bounced back from the loss of early wickets to get within touching distance as Wordley hit a composed 56. However his departure bowled by Lee Jones (3 for 32), provoked a late wobble as 12 required from 12 balls became 6 needed from the last over to be bowled by the pick of Brook’s bowlers Joe Barwick.
Barwick was up to the task, as although Boreham got to the brink of victory with 2 balls remaining, the last 2 balls were both scoreless, leaving Barwick with figures of 3 for 32 and Goresbrook winners by 1 run, a victory which owed much to an excellent effort in the field with 15 year old Javaughn Fenton outstanding with 3 catches, a run out and a wicket in his first senior game for the club.
