3's have the Hick ups

Goresbrook 3’s came back from their long road trip to Burnham on Crouch with very few positives on Saturday.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat Tommy Puncher and Paul Lowe got off to a quickfire start racing to 45 from 9 overs with a flurry of boundaries but both men fell quickly ,Lowe in particular to a remarkable catch at mid wicket. No other batsmen really got themselves in against a competent but by no means dynamic home attack and a mixture of poor luck coupled with poorer shot selection brought the innings to a close after just 33 overs.
Burnhams reply got off to a stuttering start as Paul Atkins, quite delighted to be given the new ball, bowled with venom and grabbed a 3rd ball leg before thanks as much to a straight ball as to the umpire asking the batsman if he had hit the ball to which the suprisingly honest answer came back as no. A dropped catch off Beva cost little as 2 more quick wickets fell but by then Burnhams 1st team batter Grant Smith had settled in and much like Graeme Hick, albeit just not on a particularly flat track, took a liking to Brooks teenage back up bowlers and bludgeoned his way to 63* to finish the game on the dot of 5pm.
Other than Bev’s hostile spell of 8-1-27-3 and Owen Elsom’s miserly 7-3-6-0, Brooks bowlers were given serious food for thought to take into next weeks game at current leaders Galleywood.
