Goresbrook 3's travelled to South Woodford 4's on Saturday knowing that victory would guarantee promotion but were totally outplayed by their hosts .
Put into bat on a slightly damp green topped wicket Andy Livett and Ricci Parnell got Brook off to a good start with a partnership of 63 at a healthy 5 an hour run rate but both openers fell in quick sucession and despite committed innings from Ben Atkins, Rahad Hassan and Paul Atkins, the visitors succumbed for a sub par 115 with 8 batters bowled and home skipper Zahir Nazri grabbing 4 wickets.
No balls, wides and general off line bowling meant a glut of wickets were absolutley essential for Brook if they were to stand any chance of getting back into the game but had only a catch behind by Ricci Parnell off Rahad Hassan by the end of the eigth over. Bobby Granger nabbed 2 wickets to give Brook brief hope but the game was soon gone as a flurry of boundaries saw a 7 wicket defeat. News soon came through that Leigh on Sea had easily won and had grabbed the promotion spot with a superior average points per game tally.
Over the course of the season Brook had generally competed well, with seasoned performances from the most experienced players and marked improvement from the youngsters, that was often rewarded with promotion to the 2nds, and one would hope that this can be built upon next season.
Goresbrook 3rds 115 all out from 33.5 overs (1 point) lost to South Woodford 4th 116 for 3 from 19 overs (20 points) by 7 wickets
