Goresbrook 3's succumbed to a ten run defeat against a youthful Frenford 5ths after a below par bowling and fielding performance left the batters with just a little too much to do.
Losing the toss and being asked to field Brook took regular wickets in the opening 15 overs but at the price of far too many wides, no balls, long hops and dropped catches, that gave the visitors a free gift. Owen Elsom, having kept wicket for the first 17 overs, entered the attack and kept the runs down but the gamble of keeping himself on for his full allotment of 8 overs backfired with Frenford's 8th wicket partnership set, scoring freely off the final 8 overs, to take the total to 221-6 from their 40 overs.
Brook kept up with the run rate despite the early loss of Martin Rooke and while Daniel Parnell was at the crease Brook remained in the hunt but the run rate crept up as wickets fell and the overs progressed. Paul Atkins continued his fine recent form with the bat but despite hitting a boundary off the first ball of the last over the task of 13 off 5 balls was too much and Frenford grabbed the last wicket with 1 ball to spare.
Next game is at the Annexe again against Harold Wood 6ths.
Frenford 5th 221 for 6 from 40 overs (20 points) beat Goresbrook 3rds 211 all out from 39.5 overs (6 points) by 10 runs
