There were few positives to glean from Goresbrook 3's 9 wicket defeat to Chingford 4's at The Peter May Centre on Saturday.
A haphazard pitch coupled with an accurate and niggardly home attack saw Brook bowled out for a mediocre 115 in 42.3 overs.
A solid opening partnership of 41 by Martin Rooke and Ricci Parnell showed Brook could cope with the absence of stalwart and run accumulator supreme Andy Livett, but regular wickets soon had Brook in deep trouble at 60-6. Mafi Choudhury provided a fine rearguard action that resulted in his highest club score of 31 and despite a tiny wag of the tail, a total of 115 was always going to be difficult to defend against the division leaders.
Chingford started slowly against accurate bowling from Siraj Zafar and Richie Williams, but despite Martin Rooke grabbing a one handed wonder catch at mid off off Zafar, this brought Nick Knight to the crease, who proceeded to show the panache of his former international namesake, with hard hit drives to anything even a smidgen over pitched. Brook fielded well but simply didn't have enough to defend resolutely and the home team soon knocked off the winning runs in the 29th over with more than 13 overs to spare.
Brooks next game is against an in form Fives and Heronians at the Annexe.
