3's scuppered in the Thames

In this TRippon division 7 fixture played at Thames rugby club in South Ockenden Goresbrook's third string played second fiddle to Rainham for the majority of the game. Save for some solid individual performances from a selection of Brook's players there was little to shout home about.
Bowling first on a pitch that by reputation took no prisoners, Owen Elsom made the early breakthrough with a diving right handed caught and bowled to remove Nick Thwaites. Andre Thoufick bowled with menace at the other end and was unfortunate to see a feint edge put down in the cordon. Rainham however, found the first change bowlers to their liking and began to accelerate ominously. U15 Matthew Elsom came on and stemmed the flow of runs with an accurate spell that yielded his first league wicket of the season but Tyler Bunn and Reece Simms piled on the pressure with a broadside of boundaries that even the ankle deep grass of the outfield could not stop. Skipper Skippy turned to Noel Thoufick, whose box of tricks accounted for Simms for 49. Simms senior then accounted for Bunn, attempting a suicidal run that George Sleight beat with ease. Owen Elsom returned and kept the attacking batsmen largely in check with an assortment of slower balls and yorkers but was unlucky to see two chances spilled in the outfield. Brook's sole return from the final few overs was a run out off the final ball by Ted Ivory.
Rainham finished their innings on 217-5
Owen Elsom 1-24
Matthew Elsom 1-16
Noel Thoufick 1-38
Goresbrook's reply was soon in trouble as Ivory, Darren Johnson and Noel Thoufick were all bowled. George Sleight helped steady the ship with 11 but other than a late cameo by Matthew Elsom with two boundaries in his 10 there was no visible support for the inextinguishable Andy Livett. The Marvel reached a well deserved half century from 120 balls, to back up the century made in his previous innings, and had batted for all but 3 balls of Brook's 45 over allotment when he fell for 55. Having already spent nearly 90 overs in South Ockenden on the pitch, the Marvel decided to finish the night in The Archer and looked as fresh as a daisy when making a late morning appearance at May and Baker the following morning!
Brook finished on 107 all out losing by 110 runs.
