Defeat in season opener

With skipper Billy Parnell playing in the 2's Owen Elsom lead the 3's in their season opener against Galleywood.
Losing the toss and being asked to bat on a greentop wasn't what Elsom was hoping for but Brooks batsmen dug in following the early dismissal of Dave Leadbeater and teenagers George Sleight and Sam Wood played impressively,
Wood used the away swing of Galleywoods opening quick to hit a succession of 4's in his 28 however the curse of the drinks break struck as Sleight was bowled and Wood followed soon after leaving new batsmen Lawrence Walsh and Andrew Pauling at the crease.
Walsh was the more circumspect of the two playing teenage skipper Connor Hicks leg spin with care but Pauling was more direct clubbing a turning delivery from outside off to the leg side boundary.
This pair added 40 before both fell in quick succession Walsh for 13 and Pauling for 15.
Paul Atkins and Darren Johnson both got good starts but once they fell the tail never really wagged despite every batsman getting off the mark. Bobby Granger helped earn a solitary batting point as Brook were dismissed in the 43rd over for 125.
After tea, Dan O'Sullivan got an early wicket to put the home team on the back foot but then Galleywoods erstwhile 1st teamer Jesse De Laat began an attacking onslaught that took the game away from Brook. The visiting attack stuck at the job however, Walsh bowling a tired De Laat and Bobby Grainger earning a well deserved wicket courtesy of a Sam Wood catch at long off.
Galleywoods life member George Mawbey hit the winning runs to give the home side a 7 wicket win but Brooks efforts earnt commendation.
