3s upwardly mobile again

Danny Gillham’s 3rd XI were thwarted by the rain in a game they needed to win to keep their promotion chances in their own hands, as the 3’s were almost certainly set fair for victory at 118-2 from 14.5 overs in pursuit of Burnham’s 205, with Tommy Puncher unbeaten on 50 and Darren Robinson going well on 24, however heavy rain rendered the pitch unplayable.

Earlier 4-31 from Alfie Atkins and 2-37 from Danny Gillham ensured that Burnham’s total was kept to a manageable level despite a fine attacking 95 from visiting skipper Shipton.

The abandonment meant a nervous wait for Gillham to see whether his side had hung on to 3rd spot, but when news came through that Hatfield Peverel had also been abandoned, the 3s promotion was confirmed.
