Lee Jones grabbed a hat trick in Goresbrook 3's emphatic victory over Hornchurch Athletic 3's at the Annex ground on Saturday.
Daryl Forward and Ben Irving took the new ball and bowled with pace aplenty and after a few well hit boundaries from Athletic's openers Irving took two in two balls; Lee Jones safely catching a steepler at cover point, the other comprehensively bowled; with Forward also bowling his victim.
Owen Elsom and Qasir Mumtaz entered the attack and both got early wickets but it was the introduction of Lee Jones in the 28th over that saw the game turned on its head when with his very first ball he had Ali nabbing a catch at square leg. The next ball was full and could only be helped onto the stumps by the batsman and the third wicket, to a fully attacking field saw the batsman fend off a snorter to a diving Daryl Forward at second slip. The hundred was brought up by the last pair but Forward returned to grab the final wicket to leave the ten men visitors 104 all out

Bradley Winsley and Paul Lowe safely negotiated the ten overs that could be squeezed in before tea, scoring 39-0 but the runs came much more freely after the break with both openers swapping the strike and the scoring evenly until Winsley nudged ahead getting his fifty with his tenth four of the innings that brought the scores level and a single to finish the game off and give Winsley's men their 7th victory in a row.
