Andy Livett scored his second century of the season in Goresbrook 3's win against Rankins at the Annex ground last Saturday but it was almost not enough as Rankins ended up just 5 runs a shy in Brooks closest game of the season to date.
Skipper Bradley Winsley promoted himself to open the innings and this looked to be a great call as he and Livett put on 132 for the first wicket before Winsley fell having struck six boundaries in his innings of 44. First Jo Wilkinson joined Marv in the middle but fell for just 3, then Atif Ali, back in the fold after a spell in the 4's, helped the score along before he too fell for 19. Marv got to three figures with a two and had just hit his 16th boundary when he fell for 107. Tommy Puncher with 7* helped Brook then limp to 200-5 from their allotted 45 overs.
Rankins batsmen made unspectacular progress against Daryl Forward and Ben Irving and it was Qasir Mumtaz in his debut for the 3's who made the first breakthrough. However the visitors continued to accumulate runs after a Bradley Winsley brace and it took the returning Forward, who nabbed two, and a pair of run outs to scupper Rankins late charge leaving Brook victors by 5 runs.
