Goresbrook captain, Joe Barwick lost the toss and the hosts took to the field on a hot afternoon at the M & B Annex Ground on Saturday. Daryl Forward enjoyed an early breakthrough with the ball as he sent Lloyd Simester back to the hutch for 1. Fellow opener, Kenroy Lawrence, plundered eleven boundaries as Green’s innings took shape but the introduction of skipper Barwick proved his undoing as the 19 year old bowled the powerful left hander for a superb 58. Barwick’s outswing proved a menace for the visitors as bowling in tandem with Atif Ali (1 for 47) their combined spell of 18 overs thwarted Green’s charge. Barwick returned a maiden 5 wicket haul at a cost of 40 runs and with Danny Gilham’s late burst yielding 2 for 2 plus a sharp stumping and a catch for ‘keeper Billy Chapman, Bow Green were shot out for a meagre 132.
After tea ‘Brook suffered an early scare when Jack Stead departed for a duck but 19 year old Billy Chapman picked up the mantle and shaped the hosts reply with a series of pulls and cuts. Chapman raced to a magnificent, unbeaten 78 from only 54 balls which included 14 fours and a towering maximum and with solid support from Dunston Alfred, who struck a cavalier undefeated 28, the Dagenham outfit eased to a comfortable 7 wicket victory.
