Captain Daryl Forward hit the fourth ball of the final over for four to clinch a thrilling 1 wicket win for Goresbrook 2nd XI against Benfleet 2s in an excellent game at the M&B Club. Benfleet were inserted by Forward and they battled to 212-6 from their 50 overs in the face of some hostile bowling from Israel Ochwo and tidy spells from the skipper (2-40) and Pawan Singh (2-22). Josh Brady (43), John Bull (42) and Charlie Huntley (37*) all impressing for the visitors.
The Goresbrook reply was centered around a fine hundred from opener Aaron Scott, however as wickets kept falling at the other end, there was a full scale panic when Scott became the 8th wicket to fall for 109 with 7 runs required. When Ochwo was trapped lbw in the final over, there were still 3 runs required, but number 11 Singh scrambled a single and then Forward hit the winning runs to provoke wild celebrations from his teammates.
