The Bowlers held sway in this competitive tussle at M & B Sports Ground on Saturday. Sam Hodgson (3 for 33) was the pick of the visiting attack whilst Manish Battan held the hosts batting together mixing obdurate defence with some exuberant shots, fashioning 9 fours and a maximum in a superb 56. Livash Ramduth (14) and Siraj Zafar (10) were the only other home batsmen in double figures as ‘Brook’s second string produced an under par total of 138.
After tea, the Old Boys led by an intelligent 33 from Waj Ahmed, saw wickets tumble with alarming regularity as Karnail Kalyan, Battan and Ramduth each claimed a brace of victims to put the outcome on a knife edge when the rains forced a delay. The introduction of skipper Rohit Sharma turned the tide in in the home side’s favour and his three wicket salvo saw Goresbrook home to a narrow 17 run success.
Goresbrook 2nd 138 all out in 32.3 overs (20 pts) beat Old Southendians & Southchurch 2nd 121 all out in 35.3 overs (5 pts) by 17 runs
