Goresbrook 2nds skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat at the M & B Sports Ground on Saturday but must have been rueing his decision as his first three batsmen were back in the hutch with only 26 on the scoreboard. Sharma led the revival with resolute defiance producing a superb 68 containing 8 fours and a maximum. Support from the lower order came in the shape of ‘keeper Lovelin Mostra (31), Karamat Ali (23) and Abdullah Ahmed (16) whilst the vistors’ Jack Royce produced a five wicket salvo at a cost of 29 runs to dismiss ‘Brook for 190.
After tea, a promising start for the Seasiders was thwarted by Karamat Ali (3 for 34) and Livash Ramduth (2 for 34) as they slumped from 74 for 1 to 94 for 6. Edward Collett (45) and Jess Dyos (41 not) combined for a 7th wicket partnership of 72 and although there were consolation scalps for Goresbrook’s Manish Battan, Siraj Zafar and Sharma they were unable to prevent Leigh on Sea from securing an exciting two wicket victory.
Goresbrook 2nd 190 all out in 42.5 overs (6 pts) lost to Leigh-on-Sea 2nd 191 for 8 in 37 overs (20 pts) by 2 wickets
