Goresbrook’s second string claimed a hard fought victory at Horndon-on-the-Hill on Saturday. Visiting skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat but was rueing his decision as Jake Eade’s four wicket burst rocked the Dagenham outfit. Siraj Zafar (27) and Karamat Ali (32) arrested the slide with an excellent 6th wicket partnership of 69. Manish Battan entered the fray and thrashed 9 fours and a maximum in a superb knock of 62 from 67 balls to boost ‘Brook’s tally to 218 all out before tea was taken.
After the interval, home openers Awais Mohd (37) and James Hutcherson (28) got ‘Hill off to a great start but two wickets apiece from Ali Raza, Billy Parnell and Karamat Ali bowled Goresbrook back into the match. In a tense finale, the Dagenham outfit turned the screw and Raza removed the final obstacle by clean bowling captain Piggott to clinch 20 points and victory for the visitors.
Goresbrook 2nd 218 all out from 39.5 Overs (20 points) beat Horndon-on-the-Hill 2nd 175 All Out in 38.3 Overs (6 points) by 43 runs
