Goresbrook’s second string slumped to a four wicket defeat at M & B Sports Ground on Saturday. Home skipper Rohit Sharma lost the toss and his side were invited to bat first. After the early departure of Harry Jackson for 8, Arul Gopalasamy (34) and his captain Sharma (26), set about building the foundation of a sizeable score for the hosts. David Prophett had other ideas and his haul of 5 for 46 ripped the heart out of ‘Brook’s middle order despite enterprising knocks from Ali Raza (37) and an undefeated 32 from Karnail Kalyan aiding ‘Brook’s recovery, to reach an under par 174 all out.
After tea, consistent batting from Benfleet saw six of their first seven batsmen make double figures whilst excellent spells from Karamat Ali (3 for 56) and Bobby Grainger (2 for 29) kept the game in the balance. Prophett completed a fine all round performance with an undefeated 24 to steer the visitors to a four wicket victory.
Goresbrook 2nd 174 all out from 36 Overs (6 points) lost to Benfleet 2nd 175 for 6 from 44.3 Overs (20 points) by 4 wickets
