Centurion Roshi Unable to Conquer Green

Woodford Green’s second string dug in for a draw with a dogged batting display at M & B Sports Ground on Saturday. Goresbrook skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. The hosts early order imposed their authority in a stirring display with the willow. Juber Rukon who struck 11 fours and a maximum in an excellent 63 and George Sleight (30) shared in opening stand of 84. Captain Sharma coming in at No.3 continued the momentum compiling his maiden century for the Club. He despatched 13 fours and a six finishing unbeaten on exactly 100. Manish Battan (54) supported with an excellent half century and Karnal Kalyan provided the late fireworks with an undefeated 33 to lift ‘Brook to a mammoth 322 for 7 from a maximum 50 overs.
After tea, the visitors made full use of a good batting track and Nathan Onojaife caught the eye with a fine 47. Karamat Ali and Kalyan each bagged a wicket but that was to be the hosts only success with the ball as Ashishish Rai found the rope on 18 occasions in a compelling, unbeaten 136. With support from Sheetal Kaktikar (19 not) Rai saw his side through to a draw and a share of the spoils.
