Sting In the Tail

Goresbrook’s second string produced an amazing upside down batting display at May & Bakers Sports Ground on Saturday. The hosts slumped to 107 for 7 with only Harry Jackson (23) and Shaun Ross (29) of the top order making double figures. ‘Brooks tail certainly bore a sting as Manish Battan struck a maiden half century for the Club including seven fours and four maximums on his way to 55. Keeper Lovelin Mostra batting at 9 then produced one of the most destructive exhibitions of batting seen at this venue. He thrashed ten 4’s and 14 sixes in a magnificent 141 before holing out to the bowling of Tilak Patel. On an afternoon of records, Lovelin received support from Karamat Ali (27 not) as the pair posted a new Club best 9th wicket partnership of 149 as the hosts were all out for a mammoth 332.

After tea, wickets fell regularly with Chris Hunt’s 33 the highlight of the Seasiders’ reply. George Sleight (3 for 23) was the pick of the home attack whilst Manish Battan and Karamat Ali added to their earlier exploits with two wickets apiece as Brook bagged their first league victory of the campaign by a margin of 141 runs.
