Nearly 600 runs were scored on a belter of a track at May & Bakers Sports Ground on Saturday. Openers Harry Jackson (54) and Andy Livett (39) gave ‘Brook 2nds the ideal fillip with a partnership of 92. Skipper Rohit Sharma posted an excellent 58 whilst Lovelin Mostra thrashed a quick fire 32 to maintain the impetus. A deep batting line up steered the hosts to a mammoth 295 for 8 from their allotted 45 overs.
After tea, West Essex set about their target with aplomb with Masoud Khan’s 104 forming the backbone of their reply. Three wickets apiece from Ali Raza and Karnal Kalyan appeared to have tipped the balance in Goresbrook’s favour but late unbeaten knocks from last pair Nitesh Bansal (20) and Aswin Kumar (15) saw the visitors through to a stunning one wicket victory.
