Skipper takes 4 as Rayleigh 2nds vanquished

Lee Ramduth’s second string got back to winning ways with a comfortable victory over Rayleigh’s 2’s at the M&B Club after a disciplined bowling performance restricted the visitors to 141-9 from their 45 overs, well short of par on what has become a fine batting wicket at the club. Tidy new ball spells from Matt Friend and Bobby Gaymer were backed up by Harry Jackson and Lee Jones, as the seamers rattled through 25 overs for just 59 runs. As is often the case, the pressure built led to wickets for the spinners and skipper Ramduth was the main beneficiary taking 4-35 with his orthodox left armers. Ramduth was well supported by veteran prime-time capitaliser Lawrence Walsh, the veteran leggie taking 2-36 and with only the touch of visiting skipper Frost pacing Rayleigh with a well compiled 40, Rayleigh were forced to limp home in order to bat out their overs.

The Goresbrook response started positively, with Aaron Scott and Charlie Thompson seeing off the new ball before Thompson fell for 17. However Scott pushed on to make 37 before it became the Afzal Hussain show, the diminutive right hander hitting a sparkling unbeaten 63 as Goresbrook passed their target in the 35th over for the loss of 4 wickets.

Goresbook move up a place to 5th and if they are to make a late promotion charge, it will start in the next two weeks as they visit table toppers Writtle and 2nd placed Tillingham in successive weeks.
