Goresbrook’s second string continued their eye-catching start to the season with an ultimately comfortable victory over Old Chelmsfordians in a stop-start encounter at May & Bakers. Young quick bowler Shaun Ross was the star-turn with the ball, as he tore into the old boys lineup with a return of 5 top order wickets for just 15, as Brook took the upper hand. The one partnership of substance in the innings between Banstone (51) and Read (21) for the 7th wicket took the score towards 3 figures, however Craig Ivey took 2 wickets without conceding a run and spinner Billy Smith took the final wicket to leave Goresbrook requiring 105 to win.
The chase wasn’t all plain sailing as Mark Bird and Keith Friend both went for ducks and Sam Cooper’s lean run continued as he was lbw for 5, however Joe Curley steadied the ship with 38 and the in-form Billy Chapman followed up his unbeaten 87 from the previous week with a brutal 59 not out that ensured Brook beat the rain to record a 6 wicket victory.
