Goresbrook II 240 for 4 beat Hawks II 113 all out by 127 runs

Goresbrook captain Keith Friend lost the toss and was invited to bat first by opposite number Don Myrie at the Jubilee Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon. Goresbrook survived an early hiccup losing Livett for 5 but their top order were in imposing form as they treated the home attack with disdain. In-form opener Joe Curley compiled 20 leading the way for Jo Wilkinson to fashion 4 fours and a six in a sparkling 52. Richard Williamson struck 3 fours and 3 sixes on his way to a superb 69 and there was to be no let up for the hosts as skipper Friend (37 not) and Toby Maund (30 not) piled on the agony for Hawks as ‘Brook amassed 240 for 4 from their allotted 45 overs

After tea, Hawks openers issued a statement of intent as Ashad (49) and Siddique (30) set up their reply. Teenageers Daryl Forward (2 for 38) and Billy Smith (1 for 17) restored parity before Craig Ivey’s accurate line and length decimated Hawks’ middle order. 20 year old Ivey’s 8.3 over spell yielded a nap hand of five wickets at a cost of 28 runs to effectively extinguish the hosts innings for a meagre 113 from 24.3 overs.
