Goresbrook Captain, Keith Friend called incorrectly and his side were invited to bat on a damp track at Goodmayes Park on Saturday. In challenging conditions for the batsman only Afzal Hussain excelled with the willow. The plucky teenager found the rope on ten occasions as he sped to a superb 69 from only 50 balls. Carlton Joseph (3 for 27) struck early with ball for the hosts and team mate Albie Laing also picked up 3 wickets at a cost of 38 runs. Goresbrook’s youthful tail end did their best to extend the visitors tally as Daryl Forward (7), Bobby Gaymer (7) and Billy Smith (9 not) played late cameo roles but Rhys Clarke (2 for 9) added to ‘Brook’s woes as they slumped to 141 all out. The contest fell victim to the weather as a series of storms put paid to proceedings and the match was abandoned as a draw.
