Goresbrook’s second eleven crashed to a 67 run defeat against Walthamstow seconds at Greenway Avenue on Saturday. On a difficult track, Iqbal (31) and Ferooq (23) battled bravely in the face of some accurate bowling from the ‘Brook attack with 15 year old spinner Billy Smith proving the pick in claiming 3 for 24. Billy Chapman (2 for 27), Daryl Forward (2 for 38) and Craig Ivey (2 for 41) ensured there was no let up for the hosts who were all out for 178.
After the tea ‘Brook were boosted by some solid knocks as Billy Chapman (27) and Andy Livett (16) did their best to thwart the home bowlers early on. Issury (3 for 37) and Hassan (3 for 22 including a hat-trick) soon had the visitors’ middle order in trouble and Craig Ivey was the only Goresbrook batsman to offer late resistance as he held firm for an eye catching unbeaten 24, but the Dagenham outfit slumped to a disappointing total of 111 and defeat by 67 runs.
