Gently Bentley - Rukon and Calverley Almost See 'Brook Home

Bentley skipper Ash Parmenter won the toss and elected to bat first at Coxtie Green on Saturday.
Some sharp fielding saw Shaun Ross run out Matt Coleman with only 8 runs on the board. Henry Burns (29) buckled down to restore some stability for the Brentwood side whilst Phil Coleman cut loose accumulating 94 which included 15 fours and 2 maximums. Captain Parmenter struck 71 in an entertaining visit to the crease looking to position his side for an early declaration. Three wickets from Livash Ramduth and a victim apiece for Daryl Forward and Vijayaratnam Mahal slowed the hosts acceleration but Parmenter adjudged 265 to be a sufficient target for the visitors when he called his batsmen in at the conclusion of the 48th over.
Set 47 overs to attain the required total, ‘Brook lost George Godfrey early in their reply. Fellow opener Juber Rukon, making his first team debut after promotion from the 2nds, impressed with a measured innings to maintain a challenging run rate for the Dagenham outfit. In tandem with the in-form Jordan Calverley, Rukon found the rope 13 times in a superb knock of 80. Calverley complemented his team mate and fashioned 12 fours and 2 huge sixes in a compelling 76, the pair posting 133 for the second wicket to set the scene for a late thrash. Shaun Whelan’s three wickets saw both teams fortunes ebb and flow whilst Vijayaratnam clubbed three huge maximums which scattered the home fielders to all corners of the quaint ground. With seven wickets down ‘Brook’s challenge abated and they saw out the last two overs for a comfortable draw.
