Goresbrook Skipper Kane Messenger won the toss and elected to bat first on a good track at Oakfield on Saturday.
Opener George Godfrey departed early for 6 and Ted Ivory picked up the gauntlet with a solid 25 and with partner Jordan Calverley (30) sought to give the visitors a platform. A middle order slump saw ‘Brook slide to a precarious 116 for 6 before in form Lee Jones and captain Messenger shared in an excellent 7th wicket stand of 85. Jones struck eight fours and one maximum in compiling a superb 72 whilst Messenger fashioned an unbeaten 28 to post a respectable 214 when all out with four balls remaining of their allotted 50 overs.
After tea, Muhammad Attuallah’s two wicket salvo gave the Dagenham outfit the ideal fillip but Burhan Mahmood’s splendid half century calmed the host’s nerves. Pragash Ramachandran entered the fray and made his intentions clear from the very first delivery he faced. The diminutive batsman clubbed 8 fours and six towering sixes in a destructive exhibition of shots before he became the second of left arm spinner Livash Ramduth’s two victims which appeared to swing the match back in Goresbrook’s favour. Manjinder (32 not) and Suminda (16 not) ensured there were no more hiccups for the home side, steering Aztecs to a comfortable 6 wicket victory
Goresbrook 1st 214 all out in 49.2 Overs (9 points) lost to Aztec 1st 217 for 4 in 30.4 Overs (20 points) by 6 wickets
