Rettendon routed

Kurt Whisker’s men ended the season and his near-decade in charge of the 1st XI with a good win at Rettendon to consolidate their 3rd place in the T Rippon Mid-Essex league and to consign their hosts to the bottom spot in the T Rippon Premier Division.

After losing the toss, Whisker led his men into the field looking to dislodge Rettendon danger-man Chris Huntington and although his bowlers failed in that task, as Huntingdon hit a high quality 86 featuring two reverse hit sixes as he looked to dominate the Brook spin attack, the Goresbrook bowlers swarmed all over the other Rettendon batsmen, ensuring that the hosts never looked like posting a testing total.

Eager to reject the notion that Rettendon are a one-man batting unit, Extras chipped in with 45, but only one other Rettendon batsmen made double figures, as Shaun Ross (3-33), Harry Jackson (2-17) and Shane Barwick (2-28) got amongst the wickets, Brook dismissing Rettendon for 168 in 38 overs.

The Goresbrook reply was anchored by 64* from skipper Whisker and with support from Shane Barwick (23) and Jordan Calverley (46 from 27 balls), the visitors cantered home in the 27th over as rain came over the horizon to finish their season on a pleasing note.
