6 more for paceman after batsmen set 225

Kurt Whisker's 1's inflicted only the second defeat on visitors Bentley this season, as a fine top order effort mustered 225 runs that Israel Ochwo, returning after a week's absence, was in no mood to allow the visitors to chase down.

After Whisker won the toss and elected to bat, the visitors spirits must have been lifted as Whisker was hit by the first 2 deliveries as Steve Flack extracted some sharp bounce, however Whisker and partner Shane Barwick dug in and advanced the score to 58-0 from the first 13 overs before Barwick fell to the towering Phil Coleman. Toby Maund then picked up the baton and hit 20 before picking out long on, shortly followed by Whisker, who lost fluency after the drinks break and fell for 69, leaving Brook at 124-3 from 28 overs.

Jordan Calverley then played the key role in ensuring that Goresbrook reached maximum batting points, the tall right hander hitting 64 from 38 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes, as the hosts threatened to take control. However a middle order collapse saw Harris fall for 19 and then Irving, Williamson and Atkins compile just 6 runs between them as Tom Hawkins (3-44) bowled a tidy spell. Calverley's departure in the 41st over, saw Goresbrook still requiring 21 runs to reach the 225 mark and it took last pair Ross (7) and Smith (8*) to scramble the runs in the final over before Ross was run out with the score at exactly that number.

The Bentley reply started with Israel Ochwo shaking off the rust with a wide-strewn, if rapid, opening over and then Shaddai Smith making his first 1s appearance for 5 years, easing his way in to a good line and length.

However the bowling caught fire once a full ball from Ochwo caught the left handed Pether in front in over 3, as the very next ball another quick delivery trapped the dangerous Phil Coleman on the crease and he was also sent on his way by umpire Golding. Ochwo completed the rout of Bentley's top three in his third over as Parmenter hung his bat out to one that lifted and was well held at slip by Jordan Harris and suddenly Bentley were 15-3 and staring down the barrel of a lengthy run chase.

That chase never really got going, as despite some rebuilding from Steve Coleman (24) and Aaron Alee (30), Shane Barwick was proving hard to get away, his 10 over spell of 2-25, keeping the brakes on the visitors.

As overs started to run out, the big shots had to come and although Toby Maund went for 31 from his 4 overs, Bryan Atkins and Shaun Ross picked up wickets early on in their spells to keep Bentley on the back foot, before Ochwo was summoned back to provide a swift conclusion to the innings, the paceman clean bowling the last 3 wickets to finish with 6 for 20, taking his league tally to 20 in the 5 games that he's played this season.
