Newham 75ao lost to Goresbrook 79-1 by 9 wickets
Goresbrook avoided a nail biting end to the ECCL season as they dismissed Newham for 75 and passed their target for the loss of just 1 wicket, wrapping up the victory they required to regain the Premier Division from Barking just after 4.30pm.
Off-spinner Toby Maund took top-billing with a superb spell of 5-21, as in tandem with left armer Shane Barwick who picked up 3-12, the Goresbrook spinners ran through the Newham batting as they looked to recover after fine spells from the Brook opening bowlers restricted the visitors to just 35 runs from the first 20 overs after Newham had won the toss and elected to bat on a fine afternoon.
Waqas Ahmed was the only Newham batsman to make any impression, but his 34 was the only score of significance as a fired up Goresbrook side produced their best bowling and fielding performance of the season.
In reply, the early loss of skipper Kurt Whisker, run out by a direct hit from the boundary, proved a minor inconvenience as Sam Cooper looked in fine touch. Cooper and Shane Barwick worked the ball around patiently to take the hosts to the brink of victory and then Barwick took 3 boundaries from what proved to be the final over, as Brook eased home by 9 wickets.
