Shane Barwick wins Young Player of the Year

Congratulations to Shane whose 463 runs at 33.1 and 27 wickets at 19.7, along with 8 catches were enough to win him the prestigious Mid-Essex Premier Division Young Player of the Year. Shane was presented with his award by Essex legend Ronnie Irani and is pictured here with the rest of the Goresbrook party, Andrew Pauling also collecting the Division 11 winners shield on behalf of 4's skipper Martin Rooke.

The 4's also picked up £100 for receiving the best sporting marks in their Division over the course of the season.

The previous evening, the league AGM passed relatively smoothly with just a few changes that will impact us for next season:

  1. The league will use Lords balls next year instead of Readers & will vote at the end of the season for which ball to use from 2018 onwards. The 1's used Lords balls in a trial game last year and felt they were better than the Readers balls we were using.
  2. Any club which forfeits a game after 8pm on a Thursday will be fined £100 - aimed at addressing late cry-offs, which we suffered numerous times.
  3. With several XI's withdrawing, the league has been reduced to 11 Divisions. Divisions 8-10 will be 40 overs, Prem - Div 7 will be 45 overs.
  4. As our sides are likely to be in the Prem, Div 2, Div 7 and Div 10, the top 3 XI's will continue to play 45 overs, the 4's continue to play 40 overs.
